Charities
We welcome enquires from any charity looking for us to help with their fundraising. Our approach is to work with a charity partner for a specific event, where our large group will perform a concert in a suitably large hall / venue. We have performed in concert halls, for open air proms style evenings, and a small ad hoc group is also willing to playing carols around Christmas time.
Over the years that the band has been running we have supported many local charities, as you can see from the following:
In 2019 we made a donation to The British Heart Foundation in memory of one of our players, and members also raised money for Brass for Africa at the regular carol playing in The Nags Head in Reading.
In 2018 we did a retiring collection for St Mary's Church in Burghfield after our concert there, raising £65 to go towards their fund raising to upgrade the sound system, and also to look at the feasibility of putting a toilet into the church. We also supported TiM Friends at our summer concert, raising a total of £222 through a retiring collection and donation from the band. Band members then raised an additional £500 fro Brass for Africa at the annual carol playing at the Nags Head pub in Reading.
In 2017 the band partnered with the Kennet Branch of Save the Children, with the aim of creating further awareness of the important work StC undertake both locally and nationally. Bringing together more people to enjoy live music and raise funds for this charitable cause we raised a total of £1175.
In 2014, our Spring concert raised over £700 towards Rambling Duck's fund-raising efforts supporting Launchpad and The Children's Society.
In 2013 we returned to supporting Brass for Africa, particularly at the Spring Concert in March.
In 2012 the charity Sport in Mind was chosen for our Olympic year charity concert at The Abbey School in Reading, where we raised £150. Over the Christmas period collections were also made for Brass for Africa.
In 2011 the band supported Bradfield Primary school with a free concert and, through carol playing in Reading’s Broad Street and the Nag’s Head pub, raised £200 for Jim Trott’s Brass for Africa charity.
In 2010 we supported one of our trumpet player’s chosen charity – Brass for Africa. Our Christmas carol activity raised over £300. We also contributed to the Reading Single Homeless project.
In 2009 the Rotary Club of Reading Abbey and Reading Single Homeless project were our supported charities, and received over £1,600 from our performances.
In 2008 we worked with the Rotary Club of Reading Abbey and St Barnabas Church’s building fund. Our performances raised £3,450.
In 2006 & 2007 our performances helped to raise over £19,000 for The Rotary Club of Reading Abbey and Sue Ryder.
In 2005 we worked closely with Macmillan Cancer Relief performing two concerts for them and managing to raise over £12,000 in total. The majority of this came from the Proms concert in July at St Gabriel’s School, Newbury. In December, through carol playing at Tesco stores in Henley and Newbury we helped Daisy’s Dream raise £735.
In 2003 we worked with Daisy’s Dream.
In 2001 & 2002 Daisy’s Dream received over £1100 plus monies they collected at our events.
In 1999 we raised a total of £617 that was shared between the National Kidney Research & REACH. REACH is an association for children with hand and arm deficiencies. They provide adapted instruments for children who can play with only one hand.
In 1990, 1992 & 1994 we raised a total of over £5500 for DEBRA – Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association, through various concerts including carol playing and summer parks concerts.
In 1983 – We donated £56.50 to British Heart Foundation following our memorial concert for our conductor Tom Prior.
