Eastbourne Bandstand - Band Social
5th June 2010
Spectacular weather awaited the band in Eastbourne matched only by the splendour of the Eastbourne bandstand. A virtually full band and as ever some faithful deps to swell the numbers led to a good performance. The crowd - although maybe representative of the Eastbourne demographic, were complimentary and reported that a good time was had by all.
The majority of the band spent the evening in the local pizzeria which will not be reported in any great detail here, equally the ‘hard core’ of the band spending the remainder of the evening at the end of the pier bar and in some cases paddling in the sea after midnight will also be glossed over and summarised as ‘we had fun!!’
Newbury Bandstand
13th June 2010
The summer continues to be kind to the band with another beautiful day providing the backdrop to the home of Vodafone - Newbury. The locals were even more polite than usual and Musical Director Paul Speed was addressed as ‘Squire’ on one occasion. Performing on a bandstand can sometimes be difficult to assess as the audience is constantly changing, but it was a pleasure to read in the Newbury Weekly News that at least one resident appreciated our efforts, the article is reproduced to the right, thank you for taking the time C.T. Calder, it is much appreciated!
Basingstoke Eastrop Park Bandstand
4th July 2010
American Independence day and the Wimbledon Final combined with somewhat windswept conditions to ensure that only dedicated music lovers enjoyed today’s concert in Basingstoke’s Eastrop Park.
A varied program was offered, including a medley of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Toccata, Robin Hood and a much appreciated Lerner and Lowe in concert selection.
The boating lake was enhanced for a couple of hours with the music adding to the ambience and uniquely British determination to make the most of the summer while it is with us.
Thanks, once again to Paul, our gallant Musical Director who fought with the worst of the wind and the rest of the band who played the roles of both musician and fielder as the wind won the battle and the occasional piece of music made a bid for freedom!
Our thanks are also extended to the audience who showed their appreciation in the windy - but sunny conditions.
